UCLA students have access to an extraordinary range of classes on North African histories and societies, the Jews of North Africa, Mediterreanen history and archeology, Amazigh culture, art, migration, urban studies, North African Arabic and Francophone literature, Islam, Islamic manuscripts, and more. These classes, which are offered by myriad departments, attract undergraduate students with a vested interest in the region, as well as those entirely new to the context.  Through the Senior Scholars Program, our courses also draw senior members of the community with a commitment to life-long learning.  With our robust, consistent and diverse list of course offerings we have been able to train countless Ph.D. students, many of whom have since become professors at leading institutions across the globe.  UCLA has long had a commitment to teaching the languages of the Mediterranean, including Arabic, French, Amazigh, and more.  Through our classes, we introduce UCLA students to the past and present richness of North Africa and the Meditearranean.
